Homeland Security Today Announces Strategic Merger with Parents with Preparedness Magazine
Strengthening Safety and Resilience Awareness During Human Trafficking Awareness Month
Arlington, VA — January 30, 2026 — Homeland Security Today is pleased to announce the addition of Parents with Preparedness, an influential online magazine founded by national security leader Dr. Kathleen Kiernan and chaired by Heather Hollingsworth, Director of Strategic Communication at the Naval Postgraduate School’s Center for Homeland Defense and Security, into its digital media portfolio. This strategic alignment expands Homeland Security Today’s reach into preventative preparedness education and amplifies critical safety messaging during Human Trafficking Awareness Month.
Parents with Preparedness—published by the nonprofit Preparedness Without Paranoia® (PWP)—is a widely respected, free digital resource dedicated to equipping parents, caregivers, and communities with practical strategies for resilience, safety, and situational awareness. The magazine offers commonsense advice, expert interviews, real-life stories, and curated resources addressing pressing safety challenges, from natural disasters and school violence to bullying, domestic violence, and human trafficking.
Each issue provides a comprehensive resource guide with accessible, authoritative links to national organizations and agencies, helping families navigate complex safety topics and foster preparedness mindsets in everyday life.
“At its core, Parents with Preparedness bridges the gap between public safety expertise and accessible family education,” said Kristina Tanasichuk, Executive Editor of Homeland Security Today. “Integrating this trusted publication into our platform allows us to broaden the conversation and further support readiness and resilience at home, in schools, and in communities.”
The merger, executed during Human Trafficking Awareness Month, enhances awareness of this often-hidden threat and equips parents and guardians with tools to recognize risk factors, have informed conversations, and access support resources.
“Preparedness education begins with awareness,” said Dr. Kathleen Kiernan, Founder of Preparedness Without Paranoia®. “Security sense is really common sense—from the supper table to the Boardroom table. It’s a skill that, once learned, lasts a lifetime.
“Preparedness is not about fear—it’s about empowerment,” said Heather Hollingsworth. “By uniting trusted family-focused education with homeland security expertise, we are strengthening resilience across generations.”
Under the merger, Parents with Preparedness content will continue to be accessible through Homeland Security Today, supplemented with a new format, Special Editions, expanded information and reporting, expert features, and actionable guidance to amplify the work of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Federal Bureau of Investigation, law enforcement, and other agencies developing programs to increase national preparedness, improve crisis response, and forward child safety initiatives.
